Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a centre of the pilgrimage movement on the Papal route. Passion and Marian Sanctuary is a place of worship from the early seventeenth century, many times visited by the Holy Father John Paul II. The Bernardine Monastery and Baroque Basilica with a Miraculous Image of the Virgin Mary of Kalwaria are surrounded by the churches and chapels, called the Kalwaria Paths. These structures were created on the model of the Stations of the Cross in the Holy Land. Millions of pilgrims come here every year to take part in the services on the Paths of Lord Jesus and the Paths of Our Lady. In the Holy Week there is the Passion Play, and in August an indulgence in honour of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In Wadowice there is a Museum - Family Home of the Holy Father Pope John Paul II. There are exhibitions-memorabilia from the life of Karol Wojtyła, his Family and Friends. An important place of worship is the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary with preserved baptismal font at which Karol Wojtyła was baptized. The future Pope prayed many times before the Image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In the Basilica there is the reliquary of St. John Paul II. Wadowice is also famous for its delicious cream cakes, a favourite delicacy of John Paul II, named in his honour as Papal Cream Cakes.
