History of  „Wieliczka” Salt Mine:

The Salt Mine “Wieliczka” is a monument of Polish material and spiritual culture and underground city with developed infrastructure, visited every year by over a million tourists from around the world. It is also a world-class monument, inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The Mine illustrates a few hundred years history and achievements of several dozen generations of miners.

The tourist route starts in the Daniłowicz Shaft and leads through more than 20 chambers, including the most beautiful Chapel of St. Kinga.

Necesarry informations:

• The sightseeing tour lasts about 4.5 hours, 2.5 hours of which is visiting the mine itself that is taking the underground route which is 2 km long (including overcoming 800 stairs).
• The temperature underground is between 14°C and 16°C.
• You can take pictures only after purchasing a special permit.
• There is no lunch break during sightseeing.
